Why You Need Your Own Self-Care Manifesto Right Now

I never knew when I posted my self-care manifesto on social media that it would be paid attention to let alone liked and shared as much as it was. Don't get it twisted, I'm not saying that my manifesto made it to Oprah, Iyanla or even the manager of the gas station around the corner from my house. What I am saying though is that it resonated with my community core to the tune of 2500+ likes, shares, comments and saves. So viral the way re-mixed Baby Shark videos, and Jordyn vs Khloe memes go these days? Absolutely not. But viral in a sense of our community caring about something that's focused on their own self-care and self love? You betcha.
This shows me that together we are working towards the main bottom line: taking better care of ourselves by any means necessary.
I made my manifesto a few months ago out of basic necessity (and was most recently reminded of it once I started my sugar detox) I needed something to print out and/or keep on my phone that I could refer back to any time I felt like I was losing myself. Expectations get out of control (others and even our own), bills stare us in the face, health yo-yo's up and down, relationships are never a constant, fears about losing our jobs, or even worse, staying in a job you hate, phones ding and ping with every new text, update and dm. Life is overwhelming AF and I don't think we always realize it because it's become our baseline and new sense of normal.
This is why the manifesto is so important to me. It helps me to remember my truths about what I need to function as a productive hueman of society (yes, I spelled it that way intentionally) and also reminds me to not forget about myself through it all. I believe creating your own self-care manifesto will do the same for you too.
Take some time, today if you can swing it, get quiet and allow your thoughts to flow. Make sure you have your journal and pen handy, put on some soft music, light a candle, close your eyes and just be. Sitting, standing, laying on your bed, whatever floats your boat. No pressure. I promise you that things that are your truth and important to you will begin to rise to the surface. It may not happen the first time you try this. And you may end up with 3 things or 44 things. There is no right or wrong way to feel how you feel, again this is your truth.
Keep in mind that you may need to tweak your manifesto over time. You can add to it, take away from it, tear it up and completely start over two months from now, it really is up to you. I promise you though, that once you have a basic copy it will help keep you grounded and be an excellent tool and reminder of what is important right now, today.
